Smell From Honeygo Run Reclamation Center Being Addressed: Bevins
Residents of Perry Hall, White Marsh, Nottingham and surrounding communities have been wondering what the smell is that has permeated their neighborhoods. The odor is like a rotten egg, according to residents.
Councilwoman Cathy Bevins said that Baltimore County investigated and found the source of the smell was “leaching” at the Honeygo Reclamation Center, which may have been caused by heavy rains recently.
Leaching is a process that occurs when water runs through soil and takes away nutrients, such as sulfur.
Bevins said the following corrective measures were being taken at Honeygo Reclamation Center:
- Adding a chemical liquid compound, called
- Department of Public Works is in close contact with the landfill owner until the matter is resolved
